On Monday, November 4, three of Salt Lake’s best restaurants will come together to host a five-course tasting and wine pairing dinner. The collaboration between Table X, Manoli’s and Oquirrh will benefit Utah Community Action’s mission of feeding 6,000 hungry children each day and supporting the organization’s Sauté program, which helps students prepare for jobs in the culinary industry.
Nick Fahs, chef/owner of Table X explains how the benefit dinner came to be. “The idea was originally conceived by Manoli and I. We wanted to create a dinner where chefs within Salt Lake could collaborate and create an interesting experience for our guests while at the same time try to build some positive relationships within our small restaurant community. Manoli took it a step further and suggested raising money for a local charity. Drew and Angie of Oquirrh are great friends of ours and when we pitched the idea to them they were immediately all in.”
One of Utah Community Action’s core programs focuses on nutrition. The goal is to help feel households in need, provide meals for Head Start classrooms and offer educational programs to teach better eating habits.
Sauté is an in-house culinary training program available to residents of Salt Lake and Tooele counties. Sauté helps individuals become competitive in the field of culinary arts, prepare for the workforce and build upon their strengths to reach self-reliance for themselves and their families.
Nick continues, “We didn’t know anything about Utah Community Action (UCA) when we began this idea, but the more we researched we felt it was right in line with our industry and helping feed hungry children seemed like an obvious cause to be a part of.”
The menu for the evening will include five courses. Two of the courses will be a collaboration between the three restaurants and the other three will be dishes that showcase each restaurant and what they do best.
Table X plans to feature Morgan Valley Lamb, Intermountain grommet mushrooms, Christiansen’s Family Farm Berkshire pork and other local purveyors.
The dinner will also feature a silent auction for guests to further help Utah Community Action. Representatives of UCA will also be at the event to share more information about their organization.
The dinner will be held at Table X, 1457 E. 3350 South, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $150 each with proceeds going to UCA. Tickets can be purchased here.
